Hello Spirit Lovers

Well here we are nearly half way through the year already!!

A quick update on what’s been happening here at the Distillery on the beautiful NW Coast of Tassie!

In March we welcomed ‘The Van-Demons Shitbox Rally Team’ and their rally ‘Group’ to the tasting room on their last leg of the rally from Rockhampton to Hobart!! This rally alone raised over $2 million dollars for Cancer Research, very proud to have sponsored Adam and Marcus 2 locals making a difference.

Happy 50th MPH

Early April saw Head Distiller MPH turn 50!! We had a great ‘surprise’ Party at The Vault in Wynyard which saw friends locally and from the mainland jump out from around the corner to say Happy Birthday to the big guy. The quote of the night from MPH was “Well I thought if I died tomorrow you’d be the only one at my funeral…….but this looks quite hopeful” Unbelievable!! We then had a recovery BBQ at the distillery on the Saturday. Thank you to everyone who helped make MPH’s 50th Birthday one to remember.

Alchemist Academy Private Cask Owners

April saw Jonathan McGee join the ‘Alchemist Academy’ making his own new make spirit which he casked in an ex Madeira Cask, he said he is very patient…..that’s a good attribute to have when making whisky!! We will see him in 6 months to see how it’s going.

Cathryn O’Deo joined us for her 12 month tasting of her new make that is maturing in an Ex Heavens Hill Bourbon Cask she was very happy so much so she took a 500ml of new make spirit home with her.

The Distillers Bench @ Alchymia Distillery

We have released the first dates for the Distillers Bench…..so you’ve heard of the ‘Chef’s Table’ Alchymia Distillery are introducing – ‘The Distillers Bench’ This is a unique behind the scenes experience to be in the distillery while MPH is mashing in to make our whisky, this is the first part of the whisky making process. He will talk through the process (while doing it)! Explain the science behind it and tell you how he came to be a Distiller here in Tassie. All while you sit and taste 3x New make spirits through to Whisky to understand the maturation process and the impact that the cask and time has on our new make spirit. The experience also includes lunch allow 4hrs (only 4 people per session).

The first Distillers Bench slots have been released for July and can be booked via this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/563827091007

Its beautiful on ice or over ice cream and only available at the tasting room….Yum

Heads up we are closing the Distillery & Tasting room for the month of June to have a rejig and get ready for the next 6 months!
